An offline wallet supporting an exchange service is a unique feature to date. Using the newly added ShapeShiftintegration, customers now can trade directly within hardware wallet without exposing their secure digital keys online. According to KeepKey, while hacker attacks on cryptocurrency exchanges and wallets are widespread, such an integration brings traders additional security. KeepKey displays the details of a transaction ShapeShift as the exchange has signed and the wallet has validated it.
Presently, KeepKey supports bitcoin, litecoin and dogecoin, but the company intends to add support for other popular digital currencies as well.
“While digital asset security is KeepKey’s primary goal, we are making life easier for the growing number of consumers buying, selling and storing several types of cryptocurrency. They can swap whatever they like, whenever they like, without the hassle of setting up multiple wallets or addresses or signing up to various exchanges. For traders, it’s exciting to dramatically improve the speed and efficiency of the currency exchange process with the most secure hardware wallet on the market today,” commented KeepKey CEO Darin Stenchfild.
The new hardware bitcoin wallet looks like a small metal rectangle 3.8 cm x 9.35 cm x 1.2 cm, looking quite similar to an external USB drive. The device has an ARM Cortex M3 processor, Hardware Random Number Generator and a micro USB connector inside the device. It has a display and a single button, to confirm operations.
The device generates and stores user's private keys. The developers note that since private keys never leave the device, their loss or theft is impossible, if the wallet is not stolen itself. Since 28 July, KeepKey integrated support for the mobile wallet Mycelium.
