The news comes after Ebay filed patents for two cryptocurrency-related systems with the United States Patent and Trademark office. Both projects imply that they will be implemented with online and mobile payments in cryptocurrencies. One integrates the blockchain technology with transfer monitoring system and the other with the reputation system which already exists on the Ebay website.

Ebay has been watching bitcoin closely and is working on PayPal wallet to make it accessible for digital currency payments. Ebay representative expressed belief that digital currency will play significant role in online commerce. 

“Digital currency is going to be a very powerful thing,” said John Donahoe, chief executive at eBay. 

Donahoe did not confirm that PayPal will start accepting bitcoin, but he said that PayPal will be able to accept and integrate several digital currencies. The giant retail company is exploring the digital wallet industry and may soon embrace bitcoin.
