According to the CoinDesk Bitcoin Price Index, the price of bitcoin has fallen to around $300 in the first exchange rate shift of 2015. The price of bitcoin fell by about $15 on January 3, reaching a low of $297.87.
The Coindesk BPI has been holding steady at between $310 and $320 since the middle of December. The year 2014 has seen a steady decline in the price of bitcoin, which traded at $951.39 for one bitcoin on January 6, 2014. The last time bitcoin cost less than $300 was in early November 2013.
The price began to fall at around midnight GMT on January 3, falling to $300 or below on every exchange by 2pm GMT. It has since rallied to just above $300. This is the first major shift in the price of bitcoin in the new year.
