Ebay has filed patents for two cryptocurrency systems with the United States Patent and Trademark office. Both patent applications filed by the US retail giant deal with cryptocurrency.
One invention is called distributed cryptocurrency transfer monitoring system and provides the buyer and the seller with a system of public keys for the transactions processed between them. The other - distributed cryptocurrency reputation system - use the public ledger technology to place reputation markers on the buyer and the seller. Both patents were filed on 22 October.
Apparently, Ebay does not seek to introduce new payment methods with these innovations but intends to use the technology behind the cryptocurrency to provide customers and sellers with more efficient ways of interaction. The system of reputation is already present on the Ebay, where all users have to review each other's performance and have reputation rate publicly open to all. The system of reputation markers based on public ledger will improve the system of online and mobile payments.
However, both systems imply that they will be implemented with online and mobile payments in cryptocurrencies. In January the PayPal, which works with Ebay, has announced the launch of an open payment platform through its subsidiary that enables US merchants to accept payments in bitcoin through its integration with Coinbase.
