The bitcoin cloud mining provider sponsors billboards across California whose slogan refers to Donald Trump’s idea to ban money transfers to Mexico and promotes the use of BTC.

Trump’s idea of building a wall on the border with Mexico to prevent the movement of migrants has become notorious. According to Mr Trump, the building of the wall should be sponsored by the Mexican government. 

Last week Mr Trump proposed a ban on money transfers from the US to Mexico, if the latter refuses to subsidise the border wall. Critics pointed out that this measure, once implemented, could lead to huge increase in bitcoin’s popularity, as the cryptocurrency will enable remittances from the US to Mexico, thus providing a way around the ban. Some predict that Trump’s suggestion will boost the wider adoption of bitcoin in North America.

Bitcoin has been mentioned in the context of the US election discussions before. In March 2016 Roger Ver, a bitcoin venture investor and owner of bitcoin.com, challenged to a debate Bernie Sanders, candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, the stakes being as high as the bitcoin equivalent of US $100,000. Ver, who has renounced his American citizenship, was included among Sanders’ examples of people lacking patriotism, as they attempt avoiding paying their taxes in the US. Hence, Ver invited Sanders to discuss patriotism, tax-enabled wars and the advantageous nature of donations in a three-hour long friendly debate with Iraq War veteran and talk show host Adam Kokesh. Should Sanders accept the challenge, Ver promises to donate US $100,000 in bitcoin to any non-governmental charity chosen by Sanders and Kokesh.
