Bitcoin ATM manufacturer Rockitcoin has launched the ninth bitcoin ATM in Chicago. The new machine allows the Loop area visitors to buy and sell the digital currency.
According to the manufacturer, the new ATM is installed at Burnham Liquors, 838 South Wabash.
“This is our 9th location, more to come!!! Get your coin from RockItCoin!” says the ad.
The company installed the new ATM in the central business district known as “the Loop”. Conveniently placed in the local liquor store, the bitcoin kiosk may attract clients from the major hotels in the city. Essex and Hilton are 200 feet away, while Federal Reserve Bank and CBOE futures exchange are both within one mile from the new ATM.
The bitcoin kiosk at Burnham Liquors is the first ATM the company installed in the very city centre of Chicago. The other eight machines are placed in gentrified suburbs or old central areas like the Gold Coast.
Before RockItCoin, another BTM company General Bytes installed one of their machines in the centre, namely at Maxwell shopping mall about 10 minutes’ walk from RockItCoin location. The declared commission for the General Bytes ATM is lower, but currently it supports only purchase of bitcoins.
In January, RockItCoin installed four additional bitcoin ATMs in and around Chicago. The total number of bitcoin ATMs in the area has now reached 24, according to Coin ATM Radar.
One of the new RockItCoin machines appeared at a Food N Fuel petrol station in Frankfort, IL and is open 24/7. It allows one-way transactions only, buying bitcoin with fiat. The firm put the similar machine at Lenny's Gas N Go, a location in Kankakee, IL. The other two are installed in Flanagan's Bar and Grill in North Chicago and Sherry's Food Mart in Chicago, IL. They work according to their locations’ opening hours.
As of January, the bitcoin-buying fee on the three machines was 12.6% and was calculated according to the BitcoinAverage Price Index. The company uses exchange rate feeds from the bitcoin exchange Expresscoin.
